20 Ropemaker

20 Ropemaker is a 27-storey (110m) structure designed on a series of stepped terraces on the corner of Ropemaker Street and Finsbury Pavement.

The project includes 22 floors of office space (419,093 sq ft), five accessible roof terraces and three basement levels, built to high environmental standards.

Design considerations for Brogan Group focused on the multi-tiered structure, a complex cladding finish and a restricted footprint due to the neighbouring Moorgate train station.

Installation

Brogan Group designed and installed an access solution using multiple Hoists and a terrace-based Common Tower.

The Brogan design team worked closely with Skanska from the start, using federated 3D modelling and clash detection to enable coordination with the structure’s other permanent and temporary works.

The unique building design saw Brogan devise a 22m high Common Tower based on the level 14 terrace, to bridge the stepped profile and allow hoists to be tied in and service the building on two different elevations.

On the side elevation, this allowed two twin passenger goods hoists to operate from ground level to level 19.

On the front elevation, a 5000kg transport platform was based off this terrace and tied in to the Common Tower, with slab loads certified by Skanska’s Structural Engineers before sign-off.

Common Tower sections were pre-assembled on the ground before being craned with one lift onto the terrace.
