Wood Wharf in Canary Wharf, London: 7 million sq. ft of residential, retail, educational & workspace, one of central London’s largest privately owned development sites.
Phase 3 incorporated 1,603 residential apartments spread across several buildings and included 30,029 sq. ft of retail and leisure accommodation.
Design and Installation
The design included a tailored access combination of two CAS Towers plus 17 Hoists across seven blocks.
Working closely with the client and the façade works subcontractor, a new scheme was developed for ‘closing-up’ the façade. This involved the use of sacrificial ties designed for the CAS Towers, along with cladding panels fabricated to fit around the remaining ties.
Sections of both CAS Towers were assembled on the ground to minimise working at height before being lifted into place by site crane. Staircases were also integrated alongside the towers for alternative egress.
A 160m CAS Tower serviced the taller of two linked towers with hoists attached, including Brogan Group’s largest capacity hoist, the 4 Tonne, 5 x 3m ‘Mammoth’. This negated the need to tie hoists into the building, allowing façade works to continue on the other elevations.
The smaller 34-storey tower, linked by a podium, was serviced by another hoist operating from the basement level, with a second mammoth hoist and twin hoist providing access for the fit out on the front and side elevations.
The tallest development in phase 3 was a curved, 176m high, 552-apartment building that used the Mammoth attached to another CAS Tower, alongside twin and single goods/passenger hoists.
The remaining three smaller blocks, reaching up to 46m, were serviced by goods/passenger hoists in twin and single configurations.
